Silver lining: Powell tarnished too

Not that it's pleasant to see any major figure brought low on a criminal conviction, nor is it politically expedient for my party to have its longest-serving US senator disgraced a week before election day... but today's corruption verdict against Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) has at least one or two upsides.

First, and pardon my pettiness, but it takes some of the shine off former Secretary of State Colin Powell's character-witness testimony in Stevens' defense.  Powell's unconvincing (and in itself monumentally petty, if you'll pardon the oxymoron) endorsement of Obama for President the other day looks even less persuasive now.

Second and far more important, the conviction of Stevens is one more reminder of just how gutsy and tough Gov. Sarah Palin had to be to take on the entire Alaska Republican old boys mafia -- of which Old Ted was the capo, with ex-Gov. Frank Murkowski and sleazy US Rep. Don Young as his sidemen.

Win or lose on Nov. 4 -- and the latter is now admittedly probable -- Iron Lady Palin is going to matter a lot more for a lot longer in national politics than Tin Man Colin.

Palin

She seems to have scared dems pretty bad for them to have gone after her so. I don't think they want someone in who isn't use to playing the game. Powell is now pretty well guarenteed a position if Obama wins. I read the news article where Obama said so.
Why isn't Acorn and the hugh grant Obama helped them get not brought up in the news. Was Hillary or Biden lyning about what they first said concerning Obama or what they say now? I understand Hilary hads no choice now but when she was running some excellent points against Obama was brought up. Many of us don't have any faith in what the media says due to the one sided point of view such as Rezco. Moorehead, Rev Wright, Acorn ect that they do not choose to report or even comment on.
Thank you for your direct comment on Powell.

No connection between Palin and Stevens???

John Andrews stated "the conviction of Stevens is one more reminder of just how gutsy and tough Gov. Sarah Palin had to be to take on the entire Alaska Republican old boys mafia -- of which Old Ted was the capo, with ex-Gov. Frank Murkowski and sleazy US Rep. Don Young as his sidemen."

A few items that Mr. Andrews neglected to mention:
1) Sarah Palin started her rise in Alaskan politics by becoming a director of Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Inc., an organization created to raise money for Ted Stevens' senatorial campaigns.
2) Stevens' campaign manager is Sarah Palin's former chief of staff.
3) Stevens endorsed Palin for governor and appeared in a commercial for her (the commercial was removed from Palin's website after McCain picked to be his VP candidate).
