The set was pretty, the fireworks were nice and the speaker was entertaining, Republicans said.
But Barack Obama still didn't prove he's ready to be leader of the free world, they said.
From McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds:
"Tonight, Americans witnessed a misleading speech that was so fundamentally at odds with the meager record of Barack Obama. When the temple comes down, the fireworks end, and the words are over, the facts remain: Senator Obama still has no record of bipartisanship, still opposes offshore drilling, still voted to raise taxes on those making just $42,000 per year, and still voted against funds for American troops in harm's way. The fact remains: Barack Obama is still not ready to be President."
And from former Congressman Bob Beauprez:
“The speech is over the fireworks have ended and the temple has been taken down," Beauprez said. " The speech that he gave was eloquent and lofty, but no matter how nice the words it does not change his meager record."
Beauprez's "meager record of achievements".
Speaking of "meager records", lets compare Obama's record to Beauprez's record to see who's kidding who.
Beauprez holds a degree in physical education from CU.
Obama holds a BA in political science from Columbia, a JD from the Harvard Law School where he was president of the Harvard Law Review.
Obama taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago for 8 years.
Beauprez was milking cows on his dad's farm.
Beauprez's political experience includes Chairman of the Colorado Republican Party. The Republicans lost control of the state legislature to the Democrats for the first time in 40 years under Bobby's watch.
Barack Obama served 8 years as an Illinois state senator and nearly 4 years to date in the US Senate. He is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee and Veterans Affairs Committee. He is chairman of the European Affairs subcommittee. Obama defeated Alan Keyes, one of Beauprez's guys, 70% to 27% for the US Senate seat the largest margin of victory in the history of Illinois.
Beauprez won by 121 votes in his race with Mike Feely for the US House. Bobby served two terms then lost in his race against Ritter for Governor.
Among Bobby's many achievements was a medical deferment during the Viet Nam War. How did a physical education major and member of the football team manage this dubious achievement?
Beauprez's support for the oil and gas lobby exempting the oil companies from the rules of the Clean Water and Safe Drinking Water Act are well known. It hastened his defeat for Governor.
All in all Beauprez touts a solid record of achievement and a good understanding of the issues facing Colorado. The majority of Voters in Colorado don't agree. Mr. Beauprez's "meager record" is obvious. In my opinion Beauprez should have stayed on the farm.
