Suspicious package prompts light rail station shutdown

The light rail station at Dry Creek Road was briefly shut down this afternoon after a suspicious package was found, a Regional Transportation District spokeswoman said.

The package was discovered on a train shortly after 2 p.m., prompting officials to close the station and one of the two lines that runs through the station, said RTD spokeswoman Daria Serna. Trains were still getting by, both northbound and southbound, on the station’s second line.

“It’s slow, but we are still operating one rail line back and forth,” Serna said.

She said a police bomb squad went to the station and determined there wasn’t a threat. Serna said the station should be back up and running around 2:45 p.m.

“It was pretty quick,” she said. “They got in and out pretty fast.”
