Biden vows to help nation of Georgia

Sen. Joe Biden told Georgian officials today that an Obama-Biden adminstration would commit to helping their country in its conflict with Russia.
Biden and his foreign policy advisor, Tony Blinken, met with the foreign leaders following the vice presidential candidate's speech to the Pennsylvania Delegation at a Denver Tech Center Marriott.
"The Russians are trying to do every solitary thing they can to hurt your economy," Biden told David Barkvardze, chairman of the Republican Party of Georgia, and the speaker and vice-speaker of the Georgian parliment.
The 30-minute meeting, which had a West Wing-type feel, was arranged before Biden was tapped for vice president, but it stemmed partly from his recent trip to Georgia, aides said.
The Georgian delegation is attending the Democratic Naitonal Convention as the guests of the National Democratic Institute.
The meeting further burnishes Bidens foreign policy credentials on a day when the Delaware senator hit on major campaign themes.
He portrayed himself again and again as an everyman from Scranton, Penn. at the delegation breakfast. Pennsylvania is a battleground state where blue-collar workers favored Sen. Hillary Clinton over Sen. Barack Obama in the primary. The Obama camp is counting on Biden to bring the state home for Democrats in November.
Biden also met with national guardsmen and firefighters today, expressing his appreciation for the work they do protecting civilians and the country.
