MCain swings back at President Clinton, Bayh

The McCain camp wasted no time tonight in responding to criticisms made about him at the Democratic National Convention.

McCain aides sent out a succession of statements on remarks made by President Bill Clinton and Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana.

“It is indicative of the concern among Democratic voters about Barack Obama’s inexperience that after three full days of the Democratic National Convention, President Clinton was finally forced to testify that Senator Obama is ready to be President, despite his previous arguments to the contrary, said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

Bounds cited Clinton’s statement on Charlie Rose’s PBS show that Obama has less than one term in the Senate and “we’re prepared to roll the dice.”

McCain spokesman Tom Kise slammed Bayh’s comment that “our brave soldiers were killed because of (McCain and President Bush’s) reckless incompetence” in managing the War in Iraq.

“There has been no harsher critic of the conduct of that war than John McCain, who advocated tirelessly for the surge strategy that sparked a dramatic decline in violence, decimated al Qaeda, and put victory within reach,’’ Kise said. “Though he didn’t mention it tonight, Senator Bayh, like Joe Biden, supported the Iraq war, but as soon as their support became a political liability, both looked after their own political interests."
