Kennedy speech riveting for Tubbs Jones aide

Seeing Sen. Ted Kennedy walk onstage was an emotional experience for Sharon Cole, an aide for the late Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

"I love the Kennedys," she said. "I didn't expect to see him so healthy. I was screaming."

Kennedy electrified the audience not only with his appearance tonight, but with his words, drawing parallels between his brothers and Obama.

Tubbs Jones died last Wednesday (August 20) after suffering a brain hemorrhage brought on by a ruptured aneurysm. Tubbs Jones was the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress.

Cole, a Clinton delegate from Cleveland, worked for Tubbs Jones for five months and said she wasn’t going to come to Denver following the congresswoman’s death.

“My brother said I needed to be here, for her,” Cole said. “Everyone here from her district in Cleveland is here celebrating her.”

She called Tubbs Jones “a mentor,” adding that she was also a mentor to many young people in her district.

“She touched me so much,” Cole said. “She’s that type of politician that is a true public servant.”

Cole is a pledged Clinton delegate, but said that Tubbs Jones told her and other Clinton supporters, “Obama is now our nominee and we must be behind him 100 percent.”
