Obama's Senate pals begin praises

They say the Senate is a club, and its Democratic members are starting to take the stage in Denver.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota appeared first and credited Obama with spearheading Congress' 2007 ethics reform effort.

Obama called her shortly after she was elected in 2006, Klobuchar said, in the group that helped Democrats regain control of Congress.

"We weren't even sworn in yet and he was already determined to break the lock that lobbyists had on Washington,'' Klobuchar said.

Within a few hours, he had all the new senators on the phone, she said. By the time she reached Washington "We had an ethics reform plan in place.''

"We said drug company lobbyists shouldn't be able to prescribe our health care, and we said that never again will energy policy be made from an undisclosed location,'' Klobuchar said to cheers.

The ethics reform bill passed in 2007.

Congress started to change in 2006, Klobuchar said.

"Now in 2008 it's time to complete that change and put Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the White House,'' Klobuchar said.
