The partisan hackery of the left

Friends of mine who are smarter than I have suggested that I should not even acknowledge the presence of Colorado Media Matters, the "gang that can't shoot straight" wing of the leftist netroots here in our state.

The lead hack over there, Bill Menezes, sees fit to repeatedly comment on my postings here, trying to parse every sentence and claiming "misinformation" as if he's some source of The Truth.

His comment to my last article (about Obama's new ad being hypocritical) was par for Menezes' shoddy course.  While I was considering not responding at all, I decided I would, and I'm going to post my response here as its own posting where it might get more views than as a reply to a comment on an earlier article.  Here goes:

People shouldn't forget that Bill Menezes is paid to criticize anyone who isn't left enough for MoveOn.org, George Soros, and friends.

He is entirely dishonest, as is his organization.

Regarding Al Gore, he is quoted as having said: "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

Yes, it was taken out of context by the media and he most probably didn't mean to sound like he was claiming credit for the Internet.

But I bet if you ask 100 Americans (who pay some attention to politics) to name a few things about Al Gore, far more than half would name "he said he invented the Internet".

Indeed, as someone who likes to parse sentences to death, Mr. Menezes should note that I didn't say simply "Al Gore claimed to invent the Internet". What I said was that I was one of many who thinks of Gore that way. There's an important difference.

More important than "inventing the Internet" was the point about Gore's incredible hypocrisy on global warming, flying around the world in his private jets, telling us all to pay more for gas or live in the dark and cold, while he implements "energy savings" projects at his own house which somehow cause his energy use to rise dramatically. But he doesn't care, because he's gotten rich and is getting richer by fleecing the gullible American public and media about the hoax of man-made global warming. I notice, Mr. Menezes, that you didn't address the issue of Gore's hypocrisy...the same sort of hypocrisy we're seeing from Obama, in my view. Apparent discount on a house because of a relationship with a criminal, and then a suspiciously good deal on a mortgage to buy that house!

So, my bigger point is that I'm coming to believe people should (and I hope they will) start to think of Obama the same way they think of Gore, i.e. as a liar and as someone who gets rich while talking about the dignity of being poor...and trying to keep us all in such "dignity".

Mr. Menezes, you are a bought-and-paid-for leftist hack. You may call people names but you're probably just jealous of Gunny Bob's reach and of my participation on this site and others.

You remind me of a guy I was briefly in business with many years ago. He thought everyone was lying to him because he was lying to everyone. Almost nothing you say is true, and the 2% of things you say which aren't a lie are irrelevant.

So even though the Denver Post might not agree with me on some positions, at least they know I am not a stooge for some large organization with political motivations which override any interest in facts.

As far as your suggesting I should be tossed from this blog, it reminds me of the Dems support for the "Fairness Doctrine": Liberals support free speech except when those speaking don't support liberals. Otherwise, they want to muzzle people, whether small fish like me, or big fish like Rush Limbaugh. On this July 4th, I'm ashamed that America includes so many people like you. The difference between us is that I support your right to say whatever you like, even (or maybe especially) because every time you write you make yourself look ridiculous.

As far as my series about Bob Schaffer, please show me anything I've written that you can prove is untrue. Again, your reaction to those articles is simply because you're paid to support leftists, where my writing those articles is done without any pay, without expectation of anything except the satisfaction of doing the right thing and defending an honorable man with the truth, as best I can determine it based on dozens of hours of research.

Liberals can and should disagree on policy with Schaffer if that's how the feel. But the idea that this race will be based on a big lie (about Abramoff) and twisting Schaffer's prior employment with a medium-sized oil company into some sort of negative, is reprehensible. It just shows that there's nothing positive to say about Udall's policy positions. Really, what are you going to say that's positive about your candidate? That he supports high taxes, a "Department of Peace", surrender in Iraq, and that he opposes allowing America to reach its own natural gas and oil resources? Udall may win, given how terrible a year it certainly will be for Republicans and given how the CNMI/Ambramoff lie has been effectively spread. But he's a far worse candidate on the issues. Still, you don't see the sort of outrageous lies and smears coming from conservatives towards Udall that you see from worthless groups like yours toward Schaffer.

It says a lot about the character of "liberals" these days: You'll do or say absolutely anything to win, just like liberals of old such as Joe Stalin or Pol Pot. As I said, in a way I don't blame you for attacking Schaffer given how little positive there is to say about Mark Udall other than that he's a very nice guy (which I hear is absolutely true). It's just troubling that the attacks are almost all lies. But as Goebbels said, and as you've clearly taken to heart, if you tell a big lie often enough, people will come to believe it.

I repeat, Mr. Menezes, you and your organization are worthless professional hacks who shouldn't be thought of as anything more than hired guns for MoveOn.org. Luckily you can't shoot straight.

Gore Inventing the Internet

It's quite reasonable to have a debate about what Gore meant during that interview nine years ago, and I'd go so far as to say it's reasonable to insist he was taking credit for legislation and for nothing more (which seems to be the case).

But anybody who calls it a "myth" that Gore claimed to invent the Internet, is a leftist hack. When I hear "took the initiative in creating X" and X is a piece of technology with as much novelty as the Internet had in '99, I think of inventing. It's a little silly to even have a debate about it.

You have no credibility and you know it. Blustering about paid shills is pretty funny coming from you. How long have you been employed by the Heartland Institute? And all your blustering about Media Matters is worse. Have you pointed to one thing they haven't gotten right? Nope, just a bunch of whining and complaining.

Huh?

I have NEVER been employed by the Heartland Institute. In fact, other than getting a small fee (but no salary) per article for one site I've written for...a situation you wouldn't call "employment" anyway, I have not since college been employed by anyone other than myself.

Criticism by left-wing bloggers repeating the same old stuff is hardly proof of anything. My research into the CNMI issue has shown many things those sides have gotten wrong. I just don't go through point by point saying "look where such-and-such site has this wrong" since I'm writing my stuff without regard to what those blogs say.

hmm

your own bio says you were their director:

http://www.politicswest.com/23310/ross_kaminsky

So you "have no regard" for proof that you're wrong and making stuff up? Nice. Your "research" has come up with nothing but comments from people who have every reason to defend themselves and Bob Schaffer. On my side I have documents.

My goodness, Ross.

This really isn't much fun for you, is it? People tell me I'm wrong practically every day, and once or twice a year they may actually be right--petulant slobbering freakouts (invoking a Nazi? Seriously?) like this one neither help your factual case nor with the personal introspection you're broadcasting the need to undergo.

I can reduce the whole problem to a simple recognition: you are a shill, we are also shills, but the difference is we are not in the position you are of having to defend a pack of craven scumbags whose time in American politics is rapidly nearing its end. Who the growing majority of Americans realize have sold the future prosperity of generations down the river. Who fight for unconscionable China sweatshop owners in the Mariana Islands to keep their precious "Made in the USA" while grandstanding for "family values" in other people's bedrooms. Who vote for war against Iraq then swing through the revolving door into Big Oil for a piece of the action.

All the way down to part-time cankickers like you, Ross, who declare global warming a "myth" while scientists in Boulder tell us there's a 50/50 chance the North Pole will be open water this summer for the first time in recorded history. Have you ever thought about how fast your credibility evaporates when the average reader sees that?

You get it, right? They're done with you, Ross. The American people have lived the bitter fruits of your busted "drown the beast" ideology applied to our society and institutions and they're tired of you. Another example: Jon Caldara spent years on the RTD board mindlessly obstructing public transportation investments, delaying the light rail system in Denver by a decade or more. Do people even realize that? How much time we lost that we could have spent getting ready for $4 gas, while you people prattled on about "small government" and how Americans really prefer cars?

How about your love affair with Doug Bruce and TABOR, somewhat complicated by the fact that he is now a laughable Scooby Doo villain in the eyes of the public? And did I mention that the El Paso County he left behind can't afford to inspect the restaurants?

In some ways I admire the ability of rightie shills to come back day after day peddling the same bankrupt ideas, but you have to admit it reflects a certain denial, an intellectual turtling if you will (hockey sense of the term).

This is what I'm saying about your need for some introspection. You're kind of pissed off a lot, and I don't know if you've noticed but that's not always very cool. Especially at parties. You might lighten up a little, take a deep breath, come to terms with the simple fact that your worldview is fundamentally broken, and smile more like that picture. If you manage to do this before the next thing happens that crushingly disproves some axiom you rely on to keep that crazy anarchocapitalist train a'rolling, it will sting less. Seriously.

Either way, ladle on the "hackery" charge as thick as you want. We're hacks, you're a hack, hugs all around. The truth is on our side, a fact we'll underscore in big bright double digits for you the first Tuesday this coming November.

Kaminsky's Billionaires for the right wing.

Great comment Mr. Franklin especially the "introspection" bit. Ruse and company are forever whining about George Soros and the leftist billionaires. His crowd never mentions Richard and Sarah Scaife, Lynne and Harry Bradley, Smith Richardson, John Olin, David and Charles koch, Dick Devoe, and our vary own Coors Family all multi millionaires and billionaires who pump millions into right wing extremist policies to censor the entertainment industry, destroy the Public School system, and make Fox noise a national institution. Its raining on their parade however and you are correct Alan. The first Wednesday in November is not going to be a happy time for this bunch.

Ruse, in one of his "introspective" moments claims Myspace is a site for adolescents and felt I should spend my time there and not waste his. How does he explain the fact that the Corpsmen of the First Infantry Battalion Eight Marines of Baker Company who suffered through the many casualties in the battle for Fallujah in November 2004 keep in touch with one another on Myspace the site for "adolescents" according to Ruse.

One other question

Alan, do you get a salary from ProgressNow or any other liberal political group?

...

Alan,

I'll keep this relatively short, for a change.

I'm not sure whom you think I'm a "shill" for, as I've been very critical of the GOP in recent years (though obviously not as critical as I've been of the socialists/Democrats.)

There's no doubt that the GOP has strayed far from many of the ideals I hold important, and that's why yet again I won't be voting for a Republican for President.

Light rail is a joke. Have you looked at how much it costs per mile? $4 gas isn't nearly enough to justify it.

While I haven't seen any data since late March, at that time Arctic sea ice was covering the largest area it had in at least 4 years.
http://www.socc.ca/images/seaice/current_cycle.jpg

Please tell me which part of liberty and limited government and free markets you believe is a "bankrupt idea". What's really interesting is how liberals don't learn from economic history.

There is no doubt that this is going to be a big year for Democrats in November. That doesn't mean their ideas are right and it doesn't mean that Democrats will be permanently in power any more than 1994 meant the GOP would be permanently in power. Personally, I like divided government a lot. The less they're able to agree on, the better off most of us are most of the time.

Regarding TABOR and Doug Bruce, I'm a huge fan of the former and I've always thought the latter was exceptionally abrasive and annoying, even to people who support his ideas. As someone once said, ideas aren't responsible for the people who believe them.

Ruseputsky. Attack Hack.

Poor Ruse. He's right. He should have taken his pals advice and kept his mouth shut. This rant is pathetic. Apparently Colorado Media Matters is getting his goat. Ruse isn't the first. His hero Gunny Boob is taking notice. But who am I to criticize a big name newspaperman like Ruse the universal "limousine libertarian" know it all. Colorado Media Matters and Bill Menezes will survive. They don't make up facts and they tell the truth. They expose clowns like you and Newman.

Blah blah blah

One of the least effective ways to converse with adults is to make up silly names for people.

Of course Menezes and his e-goons will survive. They have funding from leftist organizations and are paid to do what they do.

As far as getting goats, it seems like I'm getting the better of the getting these days as all these lefties feel the need to respond to me, you included, Ryecatcher.

I asked you already to show me anything you can show is factually wrong in my Bob Schaffer articles which you seem to enjoy trying to criticize. Instead all you can do is write like a junior high school kid.

I suggest you grow up or go play on MySpace or some other site for adolescents.

Ruseputsky's thin skin.

Always the same stale accusations. Leftist organizations with big money funding "e-goons"? What no righty groups with money funding your "limousine libertarian" crowd Ruse.

Speaking of junior high adolescents. Your thin skin is showing Ruse. Your the one doing the responding cowboy. Get some therapy. You need it.

...

The influence of (i.e. money from) people like Soros on the left-wing netroots is well-known and far larger than anything the right does. Furthermore, I don't know of any similar funding outfit for libertarians! While I presume there is some conservative money out there, I'm not enough of a conservative to attract any, nor do I really want to as this isn't what I look to for a source of income. Being independent lets me write what I want to without having to simply reflect views of others, like Menezes does.

Did you not read my response to Sirota about "limousine libertarian"? You have to be a bit of a moron to use a tag like that on someone like me. Attacking me for having ambitions to make money is like throwing Brer Rabbit into the briar patch.

In case you missed it, here it is again:

I should also make the point that the idea of "Limousine Libertarian" is rather ridiculous, if you understood what the point of "Limousine Liberal" is. You seem to be trying to insult me, but since one of my long-expressed ambitions is to get rich, and since I believe there is nobility in getting rich (legally), I am proud of being able to afford a limousine, although I haven't been in one in years and think they're gaudy and rather silly. Liberals, on the other hand, seem to think there is virtue in being poor, and therefore a liberal in a limousine represents hypocrisy where a libertarian or conservative in a limousine simply represents achieving stated goals. Let me clarify one thing before you misrepresent that as well: I am not saying that poor people are not or can not be noble. I am saying that there is not inherent nobility in being poor. And to be very clear, I am not saying there is inherent nobility in being rich, but I think there is in getting rich (again, legally and non-fraudulently.) As Adam Smith made perfectly clear, people can only get rich in a capitalist society by providing (directly, or indirectly through investment) a good or service that other people are willing to pay for. Anyone who can produce something that so many people want or need is probably worthy of admiration.

That said, I haven't been in a limousine for years and find them rather gaudy and silly. I'd much rather spend money on something else.

Laughable

You calling someone else a hack? Please.

I like that you freely admit your dishonesty regarding the "Al Gore" internet meme. Then you defend yourself by claiming that since many people already believe this to be true you have no obligation to tell the truth yourself.

Have you no sense of truth? No sense of ethics? No sense of morals? Is everything just a big partisan game to you or is there objective, knowable truth?

It has been well documented by myself and others that you have, at best, only a passing interest in truth or facts. The fact that you are employed by the The Denver Post is a blight on this publication. They apparently have absolutely no standards. You're as dishonest a hack as I have ever encountered in politics or political debate. It's truly astounding the things that you will say and expect people to accept as truth. It's insulting to any thinking persons intelligence.

Good for Media Matters for tracking your dishonesty. I've given up as it would require my full attention to track and correct the lies and half-truths that spill onto your page every single day.

Honestly, I don't know how someone like yourself wakes up in the morning and looks at himself in the mirror. You clearly have no sense of right or wrong, only shameless self-promotion and a desire to chase fame for fames sake.

Steve_Balboni

"steve balboni" is a lefty troll who posts everywhere in a hopeless attempt to be relevant. you can't really call him a hack because he's about as perceptive and interesting as a doorknob. it's one these unfortunate byproducts of blogosphere. too many untalented people posting their stilted thoughts.

he's just jealous ross.

Laughable indeed

I most certainly didn't "admit dishonesty" about Gore. He said what he said, and most people heard it the way I did despite the hindsight being applied to it now. Maybe it was the fact that it seems so believable, or maybe it was the fact that I don't really care very much, but until I looked into it today (after writing my note about Obama), I thought there was no question about the Gore quote. In any case, I repeat that most people believe he made that claim. And, as I said before, the point of the article is that Obama is a hypocrite too...Gore was a few words out of many paragraphs, yet you think it's important to comment on it. Very strange.

More importantly, why do you leftists feel it necessary to defend a multi-millionaire hypocrite windbag like Al Gore? Really, there's a guy who can't even dress himself properly, but who has made millions of dollars by admittedly "over-representing" (i.e. lying) in his movie and investing in "green energy" while trying to force the world to do things which would then benefit him financially. Gore's a brilliant capitalist, and that's fine. It just pisses me off that he talks as if he's a common man, just trying to do a good thing. And it's amusing that so many of you believe him.

As far as "sense of truth", I find it truly laughable, to use your terminology, how many of you leftist hacks simply repeat what a reporter who didn't do his homework says. And as far as a bigger philosophical point, it is the liberals (like you) who don't believe in objective truth. You're the people who believe in the Constitution as a "living document", for example, which means that the document is essentially meaningless. You're the ones who believe that ethics are situational. And you're the ones who repeatedly throughout the last few generations have put our nation at tremendous economic risk with your idiotic refusal to learn the lessons of history, i.e. that socialism doesn't work.

I am not "employed" by the Denver Post, since employment implies compensation, a contract, etc, none of which is the case.

I couldn't care less about fame. I care about keeping people like you and Menezes from spreading lies about anyone who isn't a leftist, and I'll continue to do so. It's rather hilarious how when someone who tries to get web traffic in order to share his views is admirable if he's a liberal but a "self-promoter" if a non-liberal. I would also point out that my web site does not (at least for now) contain any advertising since my purpose is not financial gain, unlike Mr. Menezes. I don't know if the left-leaning site that you typically write for pays you a salary...do you want to let us know if you're bought and paid for the way Mr. Menezes is?

(For the record, as a capitalist, I will put advertising on my site if I think the potential income is worth the effort. But it is and will remain true that I get no salary from anyone for writing for my site or for Politics West. In fact, the only money I make from writing is a small per-article amount from another site, and for them I write news and my opinions, not the opinions of others that I'm paid to spread, like Menezes does.)

Tell you what...I'll accept the tag of "self-promoter" if you'll publicly call David Sirota the same thing. After all, while he writes leftist stuff that you probably like, he's explicitly writing to promote a book. I don't blame him for it, of course. I just want to see if you're as full of it as I believe you are. So, really, is the guy who doesn't make any money from writing for this site or my own a "self-promoter" where a guy who is trying to commercialize his writing just a good blogger doing what he needs to?

As I said to Menezes, insults from people like you are irrelevant to me. Actually, I should rephrase that: They're compliments to me since if I weren't annoying you I'd be doing something wrong. If there were a word that expressed the concept of "evil but mostly harmless", that would be the word for you and Menezes. The fact that I annoy you is a good thing since there's been too few people taking up the cause of liberty and limited government around here.

Spare me

The fact that "most people heard it the way I heard it" and "I thought there was no doubt about the Gore quote" and "it seemed so believable" is a pretty lame excuse. If you care so much about the truth, and make an effort to be accurate. You have no business calling anyone else lazy.

"you're the one's...who have put our nation at tremendous economic risk" Oh brother. Of the last three Republican presidents, only Bush 41 was fiscally responsible. China (a decidedly socialist country) currently holds hundreds of billions of dollars in US securities, and our currency has slid dramatically in recent years relative to pretty much everybody else. This is due to putting everything on a credit card while spending a ton of money expanding drug benefits, providing subsidies to farmers, as well as engaging in rather expensive nation building project in the middle east.

As for you belaboring the notion that you take little or no money for your screeds. For some reason you think that this bolsters your credibility. That's a bit like a slut bragging that she's not a prostitute. At least the prostitute has some business sense.

Cheers,

Ed
