Richardson talks back after Clinton's tirade

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, who endorsed Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for president, said he never made a commitment to support Hillary Clinton. His statement came after reports that former president Bill Clinton blasted him in California for choosing Obama surfaced.

"I never told anyone, including President Clinton, that I would do so,"Richardson said in an op-ed letter published Tuesday in The Washington Post and reprinted in today’s Albuquerque Journal. "Those who say I did are misinformed or worse," Richardson said.

Former President Bill Clinton had what some California delegates described as “meltdown” Sunday when he met with them privately before giving a speech at the state convention, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

"It was one of the worst political meetings I have ever attended," one super delegate told the Chronicle about the meeting where Clinton criticized former presidential candidate Bill Richardson for endorsing Barack Obama.

"Five times to my face (Richardson) said that he would never do that," Clinton erupted, according to the Chronicle.

The Albuquerque Journal today reported that Hillary Clinton’s campaign did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment about the incident.
